The core curriculum of Zheng Gu Tui Na is the Body Work Program (Tui Na Levels 1-4). Each of these classes incorporates Qi Gong with Tui Na techniques and treatments. These classes must be taken in order and are pre-requisites for the Zheng Gu mobilization classes which also must be taken in order.

The first level is designed around a full-body regulatory tuina treatment, which is divided into three parts: the back; the lower limbs; the neck, face and upper limbs. While together these three parts serve as an integrated regulatory treatment for the whole body, they can also be used independently. Performing the full-body sequence enables the student to learn sixteen hand techniques in the context of an actual treatment. The key element in this sequence is what we refer to as the Back Protocol which ties together the three parts of the full-body sequence. More complete explanations of the treatment of the upper and lower limbs will be presented in Levels II and III. Hand Techniques taught in this level are the most basic; competency in these techniques is required to progress to further levels. |

| At this level, specific treatments for conditions of the upper limb are introduced. Building on the concepts and techniques introduced in Tui Na Level 1, additional hand techniques are incorporated into specific treatments that emphasize a global approach to treatment. | |||||

| Tui Na Level 3: Conditions of the Lower Limb | |||||

| The third level introduces conditions of the back and lower limb. These treatments are a natural extension of the Back Protocol introduced in Tui Na Level 1. The back and lower abdomen are, for all intents and purposes, the beginning of the legs. One need only think of the iliopsoas muscle's connection with both the femur and the front of lumbar spine to begin to understand this connection. The back and lower abdomen (Dan Tian) also form the connecting link between the legs and the upper torso and arms, allowing us to access the power of the legs and transmit that power into the arms. For this reason, the Tian Gan (Heavenly Stem) exercises form the Qi Gong training for this part of the curriculum. By shifting the weight while turning the waist and rotating different spinal segments, the tuina practitioner can internally experience the profound and subtle linkage connecting the lower limb, waist, spine and upper limb. | |||||

| Tui Na Level 4: Treatment of Internal Conditions | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

|||||
| At first glance, this level may appear to be a departure from the previous three levels, which focus primarily on musculoskeletal and orthopedic problems.Here we introduce more subtle and difficult hand techniques which focus on the internal organs and emphasize the organ regulating aspects of tuina. While this aspect of tuina may seem irrelevant to those interested in orthopedics and Zheng Gu manipulations, it is important to remember that sometimes there is a connection between internal and external conditions. Orthopedic problems often have an internal component which needs to be addressed in order for the treatment of such conditions to be effective and complete. | |||||

The acupuncture treatment of orthopedic conditions is a subject given short shrift in schools of traditional Chinese medicine where the emphasis is on the treatment of internal conditions. These classes focus on practical application of acupuncture in structural alignment and the treatment of trauma and specific musculoskeletal problems. This class is open to acupuncturists or acupuncture students in an accredited program in Oriental medicine. |

| External herbal therapies are an effective and often overlooked part of traditional Chinese medicine not only in the treatment of trauma and dermatology but in a wide variety of internal conditions as well.
